Description

Covering some 726 acres, Ruislip Woods offer a perfect haven for walkers, cyclists & horse riders. The 60 acre lake is not only home to ducks, geese & swans, but it also has a huge sandy beach spanning the whole of its southern end. There’s also a children’s splash pad with water jets, masses of playground equipment and toilets with changing rooms. What’s more, access to the Lido is free!

It does not close, access is possible 24hrs a day seven days a week. Swimming is not allowed, indeed the quality of the water is poor. Though nobody stops you there are no lifeguards. If you do not like Canada Geese then do not go there, there are loads of them. You may NOT have a BBQ there.

The Ruislip Lido Railway is a 12-inch gauge railway operated entirely by volunteers. The line runs through the woodlands skirting the lake from Woody Bay Station beside the beach, all the way round to Ruislip Lido (Water’s Edge) Station which is close to the car park. Here you can watch the loco being turned on the turntable ready for the return journey. The two and a half mile round trip takes about 35 minutes.

What a FABULOUS place to go!! I’ve just returned from an outing there with kids aged 7, 5, 4 and 3. It took us about 30mins to get there for NW London and when you arrive, there is a free car park. Ruislip Lido is essentially a huge sandy beach on the banks of a large lake. Take buckets and spades! The water in the lake is not very clean and although people were paddling in the water, we avoided doing so. There is playground equipment in the sand and just to the side of the sand. There is also a splash area next to the beach with water jets coming out of the ground; swimming costumes and towels are a must. All of this is FREE! There are toilets and changing rooms nearby, as well as a cafe (they take card but charge 40p for bills under £10). You may want to take scooters with. The only attraction there that you pay for is the little train that takes passengers from the car park to the beach and back again. The train has a carriage for folded buggies and extra bags! This really is a fantastic day out. Highly recommend!!
