Hampstead Heath Bathing Ponds

Hampstead Heath Bathing Ponds

Hampstead Heath mixed bathing ponds are open May to September.

Description

The Hampstead Heath Mixed Bathing Pond is a magical, open air swimming pond that has been around over 200 years and is surrounded with flourishing wildlife. Originally a reservoir for drinking water, this mixed pond may be a bit chilly when you first jump in but you’ll learn to love the water once you’ve warmed up by swimming around a bit.

Surrounding the ponds is a beautiful site, where you can relax with your friends and family, sunbathe or enjoy a picnic. There are lifeguards on duty everyday so it is perfectly safe. In addition, the water is tested weekly for cleanliness.

If you go to the pool on a nice day water temperatures may reach as high as 20°C. Let this fresh splash of life help you reconnect with nature! Thick-skinned locals are said to visit the ponds daily, come rain, shine or even snow. Every Christmas Day, swimming races take place in the ponds continuing the yuletide tradition that has been carried out every year since 1895.
